EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids provide a secure way to attach TEM lamellae to the grid posts following lift-out. Available in multiple post configurations, with a shape optimized for easy accessibility during lift-out, EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids are compatible with all standard 3mm TEM grid holders.
EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids have a number etched into the left side to distinguish front and back. This number corresponds with the number of posts on the grid. Unique symbols beneath each post enable easy post identification.
By combining our FIB lift-out grids and sample holders the specimen and lift-out grid can be positioned close together for efficient FIB lift-out operations. The specimen stubs and FIB grid holder can be rotated and height adjusted for optimum FIB lift-out operations.
To protect your valuable FIB specimens we have specially designed FIB grid storage boxes and vacuum storage containers for storage and transportation.
EM-Tec copper FIB lift-out grids are available with either 2, 3, 4 or 5 posts. The thickness of each grid is 30-40µm, which makes them more rigid then standard TEM grids. EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids undergo a unique cleaning process to reduce contamination, which results in improved mounting and imaging of the TEM lamellae. The copper lift-out grids have a set-back ridge at the edge of the front side and exhibit smooth side walls.
EM-Tec molybdenum FIB lift-out grids are sturdier than the copper grids and used where copper would interfere with the investigation of TEM lamellae or for challenging applications requiring high temperatures or harsh treatments. The thickness of the standard Mo FIB lift-out grids is 45-55µm. Available with 2, 3 and 4 posts. Due to the material and the manufacturing process, the side walls of the Mo FIB lift-out grids are rougher than the those of the Cu FIB lift-out grids. Use of the FIB is therefore needed to make the sidewalls smoother.
The new smooth-walled version of the molybdenum lift out grid saves valuable time on the FIB, by virtually eliminating or reducing the time previously needed for wall smoothing. These unique Mo EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids have three posts and a thickness of 45-55µm.
It takes valuable FIB time to smooth out the sidewall roughness of the standard molybdenum FIB lift-out grids before mounting of TEM lamellae. Made with a unique manufacturing process the smooth side wall Mo EM-Tec FIB lift-out grids solve this common problem as well as significantly reducing FIB time.
