LED Illumination for high speed Fura-2 Calcium signalling and fluoresence microscopy with common fluorophores

Resulting from CoolLED’s collaboration with the University of Strathclyde, the pE-340fura is a bespoke LED illuminator for Fura-2 ratiometric calcium imaging. The calcium imaging light source utilises the pE-300 series platform to support everyday fluorescence imaging. The 340 and 380nm LED illumination system provides the optimum excitation wavelengths for Fura-2-based calcium imaging, allowing high-precision, stable, high-throughput imaging with video-rate time resolution. pE-340fura features 3 individually controlled LEDs for fluorescence imaging. High Speed Acquisition By eliminating mechanical switching of wavelengths, response time is cut from milliseconds to as little as 20 microseconds. Improved Cell viability and cost Using LED illumination improves signal to noise ratio and signal strength, reducing the amount of Fura-2 dye needed to maintain the same measured calcium concentration, increasing cell viability by reducing dye toxicity.
