EM-Tec top reference holders for metallographic mounts

EM-Tec top reference holders have been designed for SEM/EDS/WDS analysis on multiple metallographic and petrographic mounts to ensure the same focus conditions for the SEM and same take-off angle for the X-ray analysis system for all mounts in the holder.

The mounts are placed against three reference lips and secured with screws from the side. The reference lips are only 1mm thick and bevelled to reduce X-ray analysis interference. It is intended for  larger analytical SEMs with a large SEM stage. Made from vacuum grade aluminium with stainless steel screws. One of the positions can be used to hold an SEM calibration standard with pure elements and/or known compounds.

There are three top reference holders for metallographic or petrographic mounts of different sizes:

EM-Tec R6 top reference holder for six Ø25mm or 1” (Ø25.4mm) mounts
Consists of a top part only with a thickness of 15mm. With the supplied height extender (10mm high), up to 24mm high SEM samples can be mounted. The mounts are secured from the side by screws.

EM-Tec R4 top reference holder for four  Ø30mm or 1-1/4” (Ø32mm) mounts
Optional adaptor sleeves for Ø 25mm or 1” mounts are available for this holder. The EM-Tec R4 top reference holder consist of two parts: top with reference lips and base with screws to push and secure the mounts. The maximum sample height is 20mm. The mounts are secured with screws and can be pushed up with screws in the base. If reduced height metallographic mounts or thin samples are used, Ø25mm spacer discs can be inserted to ensure that the mounts are pushed against the reference lips. Pushing from the base allows for small angle adjustment if the polished surfaces of mounts are not perfectly perpendicular to the sides. The EM-Tec R4 holder can also be used without the base on EM-Tec SEM stage adaptors with an M4 screw.

Top reference holder EM-Tec 12 for two  Ø25mm or Ø 1” mounts
The EM-Tec R12 top reference holder consists of a top and a base. The maximum sample height is 20mm. The mounts are secured with screws and can be pushed against the reference lips with screws in the base. If reduced height metallographic mounts or thin samples are used, Ø25mm spacer discs can be inserted under the mount. Pushing from the base allows for small angle adjustment if the polished surfaces of mounts are not perfectly perpendicular to the sides. The top of the EM-Tec R12 can be used without the base on the EM-Tec SEM stage adaptors with an M4 screw.

Top reference holders EM-Tec R14 for four  Ø25mm or Ø 1” mounts
The EM-Tec R14 has the same design as the EM-Tec R12 top reference holder but has double the capacity: 4 x Ø25mm or 4 x 1” metallographic mounts

Top reference holders EM-Tec R2 for two  Ø40mm and EM-Tec R2-1.5 for two of the Ø 1-1/2” (Ø38mm) mounts
EM-Tec R2 and R2-1.5 top reference holders consist of two parts: top and base. The maximum sample height is 20mm. The mounts are secured with screws and can be pushed up with screws located in the base. If reduced height metallographic mounts or thin samples are used, Ø32mm spacer discs can be inserted to ensure that the mounts are pushed against the reference lips. Pushing from the base allows for small angle adjustment if the polished surfaces of mounts are not perfectly perpendicular to the sides. EM-Tec R2 and R2-1.5 top reference holders have two positions for calibration standards mounted on a standard 12.7mm SEM pin stub. The top of the EM-Tec R2 and R2-1.5 holders can also be used without the base on EM-Tec SEM stage adaptors with an M4 screw.

Top reference holders EM-Tec R22 for four of the Ø40mm and EM-Tec R22-1.5 for four Ø 1-1/2” (Ø38mm) mounts
EM-Tec R22 and R22-1.5 have the same design as the EM-Tec R2 or R2-1.5 top reference holders, but double the capacity: 4 x  Ø40mm or 4 x 1-1/2” metallographic mounts. The EM-Tec R22 and R22-1.5 top reference holders includes four positions for SEM calibration standards mounted on a standard 12.7mm SEM pin stub.

EM-Tec R5 top reference holder for two Ø50mm or 2”  mounts
EM-Tec R5 top reference holder consist of a top and a base. The maximum sample height is 26mm. The mounts are secured with screws and can be pushed up with screws located in the base. If reduced height metallographic mounts or thin samples are used, Ø32mm spacer discs can be inserted to ensure that the mounts are pushed against the reference lips. Pushing from the base allows for small angle adjustments, if the polished surfaces of mounts are not perfectly perpendicular to the sides. The EM-Tec R5 top reference holder includes two positions for SEM calibration standards mounted on a standard 12.7mm SEM pin stub. EM-Tec R5 holder can also be used without the base on EM-Tec SEM stage adaptors with an M4 screw.

EM-Tec R7 top reference holder for one 49 x 89mm block mount
EM-Tec R7 top reference holder consist of a top and a base. The maximum sample height is 26mm. The mounts are secured with screws and can be pushed up with screws located in the base. Pushing from the base allows  small angle adjustments, if the polished surfaces of mounts are not perfectly perpendicular to the sides.
